New Delhi: In today’s special doodle, Google is commemorating the 86th birth anniversary of Indian film actress, Nargis Dutt. Born as Fatima Rashid in Kolkata, but known by her screen name, Nargis, she is renowned for her memorable roles in movies including the Oscar-nominated rural drama Mother India, Barsaat, Awaara and Shree 420.

Nargis made her first film appearance in Talashe Haq when she was six years old. However, her acting career began in 1942 with Tamanna.

Nargis married her Mother India co-star Sunil Dutt in 1958 and started appearing infrequently in films during the 60s. Along with her husband, she formed the Ajanta Arts Cultural Troupe, which involved several leading actors and singers of the time and held stage shows at border areas.

During her career, she appeared in numerous commercially successful as well as critically acclaimed films, many of which featured her alongside actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor.

The actress died of pancreatic cancer in 1981. She is survived by her son, Sanjay Dutt, and daughters Priya and Namrata Dutt.
