Stree 2 released this Independence Day and proved to be a massive success at the box-office, becoming the biggest Hindi film of the year. One of the most memorable characters in the film is Jana, who is played by Abhishek Banerjee. The actor is receiving widespread acclaim from the audience and the critics for his work in the film. This did not come easy to him. Abhishek Banerjee started his career in the film industry with the 2006 release Rang De Basanti. In 2008, he moved to Mumbai and started working as a casting director. Throughout his career, he has worked as a casting director for several big releases while also acting in films and web series.
As an actor, Ab hishek Banerjee is known for the character of Jana in the Stree franchise and Hathoda Tyagi in the Amazon Prime web series, Pataal Lok. According to the actor, he started to be typecasted after his Stree role. In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Abhishek said, “After playing Jana, I was getting goofy characters. Everyone wanted me to wear some colourful clothes and speak in the same style.”
Abhishek Banerjee added that Jana is just a character saying, “Although he is very close to me, I am not like that at all in real life.” When he featured in Dream Girl and Bala, he was looked at as a comedy actor, he added.
The actor then talked about his situation during the Covid-19 period. He said, “I was very depressed during Covid. I thought no one is going to give me a different kind of role now. Then I got Paatal Lok.” His character of Hathoda Tyagi brought him immense recognition, transforming him into a sought-after actor in the industry.
Abhishek Banerjee is currently seen in Stree 2, reprising the role of Jana. The film is helmed by Amar Kaushik. It stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana. It is produced under the Maddock Films and Jio Studios banner. The film has so far collected over Rs 589 crore at the box-office, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi release of 2024.
