One of the biggest surprises in Deadpool & Wolverine was Henry Cavill’s cameo as Logan, aka Wolverine, in an alternate universe. Formerly a DC superhero, Cavill’s unexpected appearance left fans both amazed and impressed. Following the film’s theatrical release, director Zack Snyder, known for his work in the superhero genre and for directing Cavill as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, discussed Cavill’s casting in Deadpool & Wolverine. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder also addressed Deadpool’s snide remark on Cavill’s departure from the DC universe.
“I haven’t seen it yet, but I did hear about it. Sounds fun,” the director said when asked about Henry Cavill’s Wolverine variant. Further, in reaction to Wade Wilson’s remark that Marvel Studios would treat him better, Snyder chose to simply pass a grin.
The director also spoke about Cavill being sidelined for Superman’s character and added, “Well, Henry is an amazing Superman to me, obviously. I hired him. I wanted him to be Superman. So any coins left on the table are unfortunate, and in that way, it would be great to have more Henry. I always think you could have more Henry.”
In the meantime, Cavill is yet to speak about his Deadpool & Wolverine cameos or if he will be making more MCU appearances in the future. Besides him, the film had cameos from Chris Evans’ Human Torch, Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan, Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra.
Deadpool & Wolverine Breaking Records
The MCU film is providing back-to-back jolts at the box office, breaking several records since its release. As of Sunday, August 5, Deadpool & Wolverine grossed nearly $400 million in North America and around $824 million globally. It has surpassed the collections of the previous Deadpool films in just two weekends of release, states Variety.
The comic book sequel currently stands as the second-biggest movie of this year, trailing behind Inside Out 2 and the third-biggest R-rated film of all time. It is not long before the film might even cross the $1 billion mark. Featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular roles, the film shows the duo teaming up on a mission to save Deadpool’s world from an existential threat.
