Mallika Sherawat, who recently made her Bollywood comeback with a cameo in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, shared candid thoughts about the film industry in a tell-all interview on The Ranveer Show podcast. She discussed how one has to navigate Bollywood’s complex dynamics by being extremely diplomatic to avoid losing out on roles. Mallika also said that mastering the art of “chamchagiri” a term used for flattery and appeasement, is important to succeed in the industry.
She said, “You have to be very diplomatic [in Bollywood].” When asked if people get offended, she said, “Very easily. And if you’re not diplomatic, you lose out on projects. People say bad things about you. Changchagiri is the name of the game here. Traditional Bollywood is very formulaic. Main Haryana se hoon, mere bass ka hai nahin hai yeh sab kuch (I’m from Haryana, I Can’t do all this). Inn sab cheezon ke liye main tyayar nahin hoon (I’m not ready for all this).”
Mallika Sherawat had once talked about the challenges she faced in Bollywood because of her bold on-screen image, and a video of that chat recently went viral on Reddit. She explained that many top actors assumed she would be open to off-screen advances due to her daring roles. They would call her at night, thinking her on-screen boldness meant she would meet them in real life. However, Mallika made it clear that she wouldn’t compromise her values and rejected their advances.
Mallika was last seen in RK/RKay, which released in 2022. She took a five-year break before that. She shot to fame with Murder opposite Emraan Hashmi. Besides Bollywood, she has also worked in international projects such as Hisss, Time Raiders, and Dirty Politics. She will be next seen in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. She said, “Some heroes would call me and say ‘come and see me at night’. Aur main phone pe kehti thi, ‘Why should I come and see you at night? For what?’ They would say, ‘Aree tum itne bold roles kar leti ho screen pe, toh mere ko raat ko milne mein kya problem hai?’
