Mahesh Babu is one of the popular actors in the Telugu cinema. He is also one of the highest-paid actors in Indian cinema. He initially started his career as a child actor with the 1979 film Needa when he was four. He continued to perform as a child actor in several films, most of which featured his father, Krishna. He debuted in a titular role with the 1999 film Rajakumarudu, for which he also won the Nandi Award for Best Male Debut and has continued to rise in his career ever since. Rajakumarudu was released on July 30, 1999. It is a Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. The film featured Mahesh Babu and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. Along with Prakash Raj, Sumalatha, and Srihari in the supporting roles.
As per reports, the film was released on 116 screens with 78 prints. Rajakumarudu completed 100 days in 44 centres. Mahesh Babu created history by collecting gross collections of Rs. 10 crores in the final run. During that time, crossing Rs 10 crore for a debut film is not an ordinary thing. Mahesh Babu’s craze went somewhere after this movie.
The film was produced by C. Ashwini Dutt under the Vyjayanthi Movies banner. Krishna made a guest appearance. The music was composed by Mani Sharma. The film received positive reviews and was commercially successful. Rajakumarudu bagged two Nandi Awards.
