Veteran Kannada actor Kashinath passed away in Bengaluru at the age of 67. He died at Sri Shankara cancer hospital at 7.45am today. He was suffering from Hodgkin's Lymphoma and was under treatment for the last eight months.
"It has been a month since his treatment got over. He died of cardiac arrest today morning," said a doctor with the hospital.
Reacting to the death, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, "He is a senior actor. I have also watched his films. He is a talented actor and died quite early. It is a loss to the Kannada film industry. My heartfelt condolences to his family."
Kashinath, who hails from Udupi in Karnataka, has over 40 films to his credit and has directed over 15 films. He has also produced more than 10 films in Kannada, Hindi and Telugu.
Kashinath helped many find their mark in the industry, including actors Upendra and Kumar Desai. Reacting to his death, several artists from the industry shared their memories of the actor-director.
"His dialogue delivery was very impressive. He had his own style. He touched upon topics that were criticized or tabooed," said director Bhargava.
"He had humour with emotions. It wouldn't be wrong to call him a legend. He was a brand in the industry. Most importantly, he was a very good human being. We could not believe it when we heard the news. It was very painful," said Shivraj Kumar, actor.
"He never shared his problems with anyone. He had a very helping nature. Even when he had health issues he was with us," said V Manohar, music director.
