Kangana Ranaut On Rejecting Films With Shah Rukh Khan And Salman Khan: 'Hai Kya Woh? Hum Bhi Hai Na'
Kangana Ranaut recently discussed her decision to decline working with Bollywood’s biggest stars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan and her refusal to accept side roles.

Kangana Ranaut has always been known for her bold statements and unfiltered opinions, often making headlines for speaking her mind. During her recent appearance at the News18 India Chaupal, the actress was asked about why she has chosen not to work with Bollywood superstars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, and why she declined big-budget films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Zero. True to her style, Kangana delivered an unapologetic response.

“There was a time when I wanted to work with them,” Kangana admitted. “But my journey in this industry over the last 10 years has been a struggle. I was dismissed, people said I wouldn’t make it because I didn’t fit into the typical mold of ‘item numbers’ or ‘comedy scenes.’ But when I didn’t get that kind of work, I found success in my own way with films like Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, and Manikarnika. A woman has established her own identity in this industry.”

Kangana continued, highlighting the public’s love and support for her. “The audience has shown immense love for me. So why should I stand next to someone and do a side role? Or perform an item number for two scenes? What is that worth? Hai Kya Woh? Hum Bhi Hai Na!”

She further added, “I’ve never wanted to bring anyone down by not working with them. I’ve always said that whether it’s the Khans or the Kumars, I have no personal issues with them. But I stand firm in my identity. Because of the success I’ve built, tomorrow, other women will be able to find their own place in this industry.”

Kangana also addressed the exploitation women often face in the film industry, hinting at her own experiences. “Do you know how much these heroes exploit women? Inviting them for dinner, messaging them, or showing up unannounced at their homes. But now, a daughter has come forward to speak out. When someone wants to spend time with you romantically, that’s different, but these heroes are the biggest exploiters. If one woman stands up for herself and builds her career on her own terms, why does the world fall apart because she refused to do films with certain people?”

However, Kangana clarified that she doesn’t harbor ill feelings towards everyone. “I’m not saying I have issues with everyone. But for those who did, the whole world has seen it — they tried to put me in jail. But when we see cases like the Kolkata rape or public rape threats against me, we know women are still not respected. And the film industry is no different.”

She even referenced a controversial statement made by legendary choreographer Saroj Khan. “Saroj Khan, who was in the industry long before I was born, once said, ‘Yes, they rape, but at least they give you bread.’ That’s how low women are treated. These poor women think that if they got some work after being exploited, at least they got something. That’s the harsh reality of women’s plight in this industry.”

Kangana concluded her passionate statement by addressing the double standards she faces as a woman in Bollywood. “When a woman like me comes into the industry and says I won’t do films like the typical heroes, why is it that the sky seems to fall? People say I’m crazy, that I don’t listen to anyone, and I’m difficult. I don’t understand this hypocritical world. On one hand, they talk about empowering women, and on the other, they don’t hesitate to tear down a woman who rises.”

Kangana started her acting career in 2006. With almost two decades in the film industry, Kangana has delivered several memorable performances. These include Queen and Tanu Weds Manu. She is currently waiting for her film Emergency’s release.
