On winning such a big honour, Hombale Film’s Vijay Kiragandur said, “Bridging tradition and innovation, ‘Kantara’ and ‘KGF Chapter 2’ stand as powerful symbols of Kannada cinema’s cultural depth and cinematic excellence.” This recognition belongs to all of us Yash, Prashanth Neel, Rishab Shetty and the entire team of KGF and Kantara.  We are grateful to all, that we could see the light with these amazing movies. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to GoI and the Jury for this recognition. Again we thank our audience, whose love and support have been our greatest strength.”

Kantara, with its folklore-based storytelling, explored a conflict between a human and nature. In the film, Shiva — played by Rishab Shetty — is the rebel working against nature. It was shot in Keradi in coastal Karnataka to keep it realistic and portray the cultures of Kambla and Bhootha Kola with authenticity. The film earned over Rs 450 crore at the box office, leaving behind many films that starred A-listers from across the industries.

Given the response to Kantara, Rishab Shetty announced Kantara 2, which will reportedly be a prequel to the original one. In 2023, the actor revealed that the Kantara, released in 2022, was actually the part 2 adding that the upcoming release will be titled ‘Kantara Chapter 1’. In a media interaction, he said, “We are very pleased and thankful to the audience who had shown immense love and support to Kantara and taking the journey ahead, with the blessing of almighty Daiva the film has successfully completed 100 days and I would like to take this opportunity to announce the prequel of Kantara. What you have seen is actually Part 2, Part 1 will come next year.”
