Hugh Jackman Recalls Crowd’s Reaction To Deadpool 1: 'I Could Not Believe'
Hugh Jackman was previously hesitant about doing Deadpool & Wolverine but was later convinced to reprise his role of Wolverine.

The Marvel fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, slated to hit theaters on July 26. With Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the lead roles, many predict it to be one of the biggest films of the year. Hugh Jackman returns to his iconic role as Wolverine after a seven-year hiatus since Logan’s release in 2017. Previously stating that Logan would mark his final portrayal of Wolverine, Jackman changed his mind after persistent persuasion from Ryan Reynolds to join him in Deadpool & Wolverine.

In a conversation with Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes, Jackman remembered the first time he saw Deadpool 1 (2016) in the theatres and how the audience’s reaction surprised him. The 55-year-old star said, “I had to say, our very good friend Thomas Rothman (Chairperson of Sony Pictures Entertainment), had said, “Make sure, Hugh, that when this movie (Deadpool 1) opens, you go to a cinema. And I went to Times Square here at 9 pm. I sat in the back, it was packed so I sat on the stairs with my baseball cap. I’m from Australia, where in the cinema people are a little more subdued. I could not believe what was going on. The cheering, the yelling, the booing, the hits, and the comments. This summer, these two characters are going to come together again, and we will be hiding somewhere in some cinema.”

Deadpool & Wolverine will be Jackman’s tenth time portraying Wolverine over the last 20 years. In his last Wolverine movie, Logan, his character died. This made fans speculate that the events of Deadpool & Wolverine are set before the events of Logan.

Back in December 2022, Jackman said in an interview with SiriusXM, that the events of Logan remain unchanged as they are now using the MCU device where characters can cross timelines. He explained, “It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to mess with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”

Logan was a superhit film upon its release and many X-Men fans think it offered a perfect end to Wolverine’s character.
