Actor Angad Bedi, who became a father last November, says he does not let the negativity around his wife Neha Dhupia’s pregnancy affect him.
“If a situation like this arises in the West, we want to read about it and we are like 'oh so good' and if something happens here, we have to criticise it. I think it's the hypocrisy of society and that's not going to change,” he told Pinkvilla.
Notably, Angad and Neha got married in May last year and welcomed their first child together—Mehr Dhupia Bedi—six months later in November. Talking about fatherhood, Angad said, “Winning an award or signing of the film can never be compared to the feeling of holding a new-born in your arms. I feel that Mehr is my biggest achievement, adding, “My everything revolves around her and she has brought me a lot of luck. I have managed to sign four projects.”
On keeping both his and Neha’s last names as Mehr’s surname, he said, “My wife has worked really hard and made a name for herself. For me, it's a mark of respect and I really admire my father-in-law. Her surname is important to me and we would want her (Mehr) to understand the concept of equality from day 1. She is not just a Bedi.
“I feel it's all about equality. She belongs to both the families and I just felt that it's a correct thing to do.”
Angad also revealed how they named their daughter Mehr. “Whenever my father signs off on texts or Face-Time chat, he always says 'Guru Mehr Kare' (God Bless you). Mehr means blessing. Neha said that 'I really like how your dad says Mehr Kare and it's a beautiful name and that's how we kept the name,” he said.
