The fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender were given a treat at the recently concluded CinemaCon after Paramount Pictures announced that they will be making a new animated film based on the popular fantasy animation series. The film company announced that the upcoming movie will be part of a trilogy. The first film of the series will be released on October 10, 2025. Singer Eric Nam will voice the character of protagonist Aang, while actor Dave Bautista will play the villain. Additionally, Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan, and Roman Zaragoza will voice other characters.
On Friday, Eric Nam confirmed his role in the upcoming project via an Instagram post. Eric Nam is popular in South Korea for hosting popular TV shows. The 35-year-old also has a massive fanbase amongst K-pop fans thanks to his weekly podcast show, K-Pop Daebak with Eric Nam. Previously Nam has voiced characters in animated films like Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and the cartoon series The Loud House.
While the name of this new Avatar: The Last Airbender film has not been announced, the plot of the film will feature the grown-up adult version of the characters. The film’s timeline will be between the ending of the original series and the start of the sequel series, The Legend of Korra. The animated film will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, who provided storyboarding for season three of the original Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender that aired back in 2008. The co-creators of the animated series, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are the executive producers of the film alongside Eric Coleman.
The Avatar animated TV series first aired on Nickelodeon from February 2005 to July 2008, in three seasons. The series saw massive global success, which made way for its extended projects such as a prequel novel series, and a four-part sequel series called The Legend of Korra which aired on Nickelodeon from 2012 to 2014. Most recently, on February 22, Netflix released a live-action adaptation of the series with the ensemble cast of Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Ken Leung, and Daniel Dae Kim.
