Actress Janhvi Kapoor is currently busy with promotional activities for her upcoming sports drama Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, set to release in theatres on May 31. Directed by Sharan Sharma and produced by Karan Johar, the film also stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role. There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the film as it is based on India’s favourite game cricket. Meanwhile, the film is also a special one as it is a collaboration between director Sharan Sharma and Janhvi Kapoor. Sharma had also directed the biopic Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl in 2020. In the much-appreciated film, Janhvi played the titular role, while actor Pankaj Tripathi played her (Gunjan Saxena’s) father.
During one of her recent promotional interviews, the actress shared an anecdote about Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. While in conversation with The Lallantop, she revealed that she had always wanted to share screen with Pankaj Tripathi. During the casting process of Gunjan Saxena, she had a special ‘mannat’ to make sure she worked with the veteran actor.
“I always wanted to work with Pankaj Tripathi sir. He was always on my wishlist. People present on the sets of Gunjan Saxena know that I used to behave like a crazy girl because I was such a big fan of him and even today. I had a mannat to make him say yes to the film. I think for 10 to 12 days I became vegetarian so that he says yes to the film," Janhvi explained.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl was based on the life of Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena, an Indian Air Force Officer and a 1999 Kargil War veteran. She was also reportedly the first Indian woman to fly a helicopter in a combat zone.
Meanwhile, her upcoming film, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi is the second time she will be seen with Rajkummar Rao after their horror comedy Roohi in 2021.
The makers of the film have recently shared the official trailer that shows the beautiful chemistry between the two leads and their shared love for cricket.
As per the official plot of the film, its story centres around a married couple played by Rajkummar and Janhvi. After Rao’s character’s dream of becoming a cricketer is shattered, he encourages his wife to pursue her dream of playing the game.
