Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra are all set to star in Amar Singh Chamkila, scheduled to release on April 12. With Chamkila, director Imtiaz Ali takes us back into the life and time of the late legendary singer, Amar Singh Chamkila, “Elvis Presley of Punjab”. On Thursday evening, a premiere of the film was put together and the star cast was present at the do.
True to her character Amarjot, Parineeti slipped into a beautiful black salwar suit for the premiere night. She accessorised the look with statement, gold jewellery. Imtiaz Ali was sharp in a black suit. As she entered the venue and saw Imtiaz, she gave the director a big hug and asked, “How are you, sir?”
Parineeti also posed with reel-life Dhani Ram AKA Amar Singh Chamkila AKA Diljit Dosanjh and the lead pair was all smiles. For the special night, Diljit wore a black double-breasted suit and wide-legged white trousers.
The film chronicles the life of the iconic Punjabi vocalist who met a tragic end at the age of 27. Diljit recently shared insights into the difficulties he encountered while mirroring Chamkila’s unique vocals.
Meanwhile, the first reviews of the film are out. On Monday evening, Netflix, along with MAMI, organised a preview of Chamkila which saw many celebrities including Mrunal Thakur, Avneet Kaur, Shweta Basu Prasad, Ishwak Singh and Bhuvan Bam in attendance. After the screening, Shweta and Ishwak shared their reviews and called Chamkila “a must-watch”. While Diljit and Parineeti couldn’t attend the special screening, Imtiaz was present in the room, standing in the back while the audience enjoyed the film. As the film concluded, the audience erupted in loud cheers and applause.
Speaking about the premiere, Imtiaz said, “It is an exhilarating experience to screen Amar Singh Chamkila for so many film enthusiasts at the screening today. We are overwhelmed by the love that the film has received so far and with the release of the film just around the corner, the team is extremely excited to share the film with Netflix audiences worldwide!
