Cillian Murphy To Return As Tommy Shelby In New Peaky Blinders Film On Netflix
Backed by Netflix and directed by Tom Harper, the film will reportedly see the gang return to the streets of Birmingham.

Criminal activities will resume on Birmingham’s streets as the Shelby family is all set to return. Yes, you read that right. Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby in a new Netflix movie based on the British drama series Peaky Blinders. A film based on the popular series, which stars Murphy as a war hero turned gangster who rises through the ranks of crime in 1900s Birmingham, has been given the green light by the streaming giant. The movie is touted as a “continuation” of the TV show, although specifics of the plot are not yet known.

Netflix made the announcement on social media, revealing a picture of the film’s screenplay along with some of the popular names associated. Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders, Wild Rose) will helm the film, which will be scripted by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Peaky Blinders).

Murphy made a few remarks about the eagerly anticipated announcement that a film adaptation of the show set in England is officially in the works.

“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.”

“This is one for the fans,” he declared.

There have long been rumours and speculations regarding the future of the Bafta-winning series, which on Netflix became a global hit.

Murphy has made no secret of his desire to take back the leadership of the Shelby criminal family.

In February, he said on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, “If there is more story to tell, and if Steven Knight delivers a script like I know he can, then I will be there.”

Production on the Peaky Blinders film is reportedly scheduled to start later this year, according to Deadline.

Guy Heeley, Murphy, Knight and Caryn Mandabach are among the producers involved in the project.

Executive producers Harper, Andrew Warren, David Mason, Jamie Glazebrook and David Kosse are also involved.

While Knight stated to Deadline in 2022 that the story will take place during World War II, many storyline specifics remain unknown.

“It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
