The directives were given at a meeting held by Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra with all divisional commissioners, police commissioners, district magistrates and SSPs through video conferencing, an official statement said.

Bhupesh Chaubey from Robertsganj constituency in Sonbhadra district secured 84,496 (or 40.29 per cent) of the total votes counted, defeating his nearest rival.

His defeat came as a surprise as the BJP along with its allies is set to register a huge poll victory in Uttar Pradesh.

The final phase of polling in the remaining 54 seats will be held on March 7.

With the onus on many backward class leaders to ensure success, these phases will be the real test of the allies of both the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The polling started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. The districts where the polling is being held are Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Banda, and Fatehpur.

The court has fixed February 28 as the next date of hearing in the matter. A division bench of Justice A R Masoodi and Justice N K Jauhri passed the order on the writ petition filed by Association of Private Schools.
