The defending champions have lost four of their five matches and come in unchanged at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium in hunt of victory and cling on to their slim hopes of making the semi-finals. India have 10 points from five matches while England are 10th on the table with just two points.

Jos Buttler said that even though he did not have any particular reason to bowl first, he is hoping that his side can give a good outing.

“We are going to bowl first today. Not anything in particular, it’s a tough decision. It’s a great occasion and hopefully, today we bring our best. Today, we want to put up a good show. Playing in front of a full crowd and against India, it’s a great occasion. We are going with the same team,” Jos Buttler said after winning the toss.

Rohit Sharma said he and his team were looking to bat first anyway and are unchanged for the contest.

“We wanted to bat first, we have had a good time batting second. It’s a good surface, it has played well for the 100 overs. It’s quite important to think like that and is also important to play well. We have played some good cricket. It’s always good to have a break. It’s nice to come back here and get back into business. We are playing the same team we played in the last game,” Rohit Sharma said at the toss.

England will still have a winding route to take to the knockout stages even if they fail to turn around their form and fortunes to snatch a victory from India. But a fourth consecutive loss would mean England need so many results to go their way that this already looks like the titleholders’ last stand.
