The Elephant Creeper, commonly known as Vidhara (Argyreia Nervosa in Latin), is a medicinal plant, which is known for its health benefits. From roots, stem to its leaves, Vidhara is used to cure several diseases. It is commonly used in the traditional Indian system of medicine, Ayurveda. As per the Ayurveda, Vidhara is considered to be a calming tonic for nerves. It is also claimed that Vidhara can sharpen the intellect of an individual. It is beneficial in boosting stamina in men. Vidhara also enhances beauty and brings glow to the skin. According to a research study published in the Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical and Health Science, Vidhara is no less than a boon to mankind. The research has found that the Vidhara plant has immense potential for making medicines for several diseases. It includes ulcers, gonorrhoea, diabetes, skin disease and arthritis.
On conducting a chemical analysis, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, hepatoprotective, and aphrodisiac properties were found to be present. Apart from this, flavonoids, sterol glycosides, and other essential oils were also found in Vidhara.
According to the study, Vidhara is a special herb for the brain as it activates the central nervous system. Due to the same, the nerves across the body stay activated.
