With the first lunar eclipse of 2024 getting completed on March 25, the first solar eclipse is all set to happen in April. According to Vedic astrology, a solar eclipse, or surya grahan, happens when planets like Rahu and Ketu try to swallow up the sun. In terms of science, a solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, casting a shadow on the Earth.
This year, the solar eclipse will occur on April 8. In Hindu astrology, it is believed that there is a sutak period, which happens 12 hours before the solar eclipse. During this period, no auspicious work takes place, and pregnant women are advised to take special care during this period. Dr Mrityunjay Tiwari, Head of the Astrology Department of Shri Kallaji Vedic University, shared the timings and ways to remove the ill effects of the solar eclipse.
The first solar eclipse of 2024 will begin at 09:12 PM on Monday, April 8 and end at 02:22 AM on Tuesday, April 9. The solar eclipse will take place in Pisces and Swati Nakshatra. Apart from this, Somvati Amavasya will also occur during the solar eclipse. In Hindu astrology, a solar eclipse occurs on an Amavasya, while a lunar eclipse occurs on a Purnima.
Solar Eclipse 2024: Ways to Remove Ill Effects
1. As per Dr Mrityunjay Tiwari, people should chant the Surya Beej Mantra – Om Ghrini Suryay Namah – to protect themselves from the ill effects of the solar eclipse. Apart from that, people can also chant any other mantra related to Lord Surya.
2. Another way is to meditate and chant the mantra of any deity. It is believed that the deity will protect from the ill effects.
3. It is also advised to take a bath after the solar eclipse is over and then donate in the name of Lord Surya. People can donate wheat, jaggery, red clothes, copper utensils, ghee, etc. to poor and needy people.
4. During the day of the solar eclipse, it is advised that people wear clothes as per the colours of their zodiac signs.
As per reports, it has been found that the solar eclipse will not be visible in India as the time will be at night. But it will be seen in the USA, Canada, some western parts of Europe, and Mexico.
