Food plays an essential role in keeping any living organism’s body healthy and fit. Having food is necessary as it contributes to the health of the body. Hence, having a good eating habit becomes crucial to keep up a healthy and disease-free body for leading a long life.
While some people like to have strict food habits and lead their routine with a healthy diet, some people on the other hand think of having everything that tastes good to their taste buds. This can bring health issues in the long run including cancer as well. It can be fast food, oily and spicy food, or even meat.
According to a recent study, it has been found that people who eat a lot of meat are at a higher risk of developing colorectal cancer, reported News18. In addition to having meat, lifestyle factors such as not doing enough exercise, being obese, consuming alcohol and tobacco, and eating less fruits and vegetables can cumulatively increase the risk of colon cancer.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a health problem worldwide. It is the third most common cancer in men and the second most common in women. According to a Times of India report, in 2022 around 19.2 lakh individuals globally and approximately 70,000 cases in India were diagnosed with CRC.
In CRC, chronic inflammation develops continuously through cell replacement in the intestinal walls. It sometimes leads to the formation of tumours. Uncontrolled cell growth occurs. Although most of the tumours are harmless, sometimes these are more likely to turn into cancerous tumours as well.
The symptoms of colon cancer that should not be ignored or arise include constipation, diarrhoea, blood in stool, abdominal pain during stool, anaemia, fatigue, and rapid weight loss.
There are some of the possible and probable steps that can be taken to prevent colon cancer. It includes a healthy lifestyle, having a balanced diet, exercising regularly, taking regular health check-ups, less or even avoiding the consumption of alcohol and tobacco, and controlling eating meat, especially red meat.
