Amazon Enters Wine Business with Its Next Label
The retail behemoth now moves into the wine market

Amazon has now released its own wine label, called NEXT. While the online retail giant has been selling wine on its virtual marketplace since 2012, NEXT marks the first wine developed from conception to release with Amazon Wine.

Produced in partnership with King Vintners in Oregon, the new line features a Pinot Gris, Red Blend and Pinot Noir with an initial production of 1,500 cases for each varietal. The Pinot Gris wine is described as having a pale straw color, with aromas of ripe pear and pineapple, and floral notes on the nose, ripe fruit and acidity on the palate, and a long, clean finish. Tasting notes for the Pinot Noir include cherry, rhubarb and spice, while the Red Blend is characterized by blueberry, currant and spice.

Bottles retail for between $20 and $40 USD on amazon.com and will be available on kingvintners.com.

Amazon joins other giant retailers in developing its own-label wines. Costco's Kirkland Signature Series, for instance, features a wide range of wines that include a Chateauneuf from France, Mendoza Malbec, and Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Earlier this spring, fellow big box store Sam's Club announced plans to launch its first wine label under its Member's Mark store brand. Meanwhile, popular US retailer Trader Joe's developed its own branded wine called Two Buck Chuck.
