Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi kickstarted the political fight against the BJP in poll-bound Rajasthan where he addressed a rally at Mela Maidan in Pushkar on Monday.
He hit out at BJP accusing them of beautifying the city but ignoring the concerns of the poor. "Stomachs cannot be filled by only building fancy airports and constructing roads. We want poor people to progress and fly in aeroplanes one day. We make and implement policies for the poor, keeping each barrier faced by them in mind. Opposition does not think about the poor," he said while citing landmark legislations - Right to Food, Land Acquisition Act, RTI and Rural Employment Guarantee Act to back his claims.
"Oil refinery has been setup in Barmer for your development, it will provide employment to over 2 lakh people. We have constructed three times more roads than what BJP did in its rule. Our medicines have benefited the people," he further said.
Accusing BJP of playing divisive politics, he alleged opposition only wanted people of different communities to fight.
In a bid to intensify the political battle against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi who will also address supporters in Sri Ganganagar, Pilibanga and Bikaner on Monday, Rahul Gandhi will be seen wooing voters in Jodhpur (Umaid Rajkiya Stadium). The election campaigns in the state in the coming days will see Rajasthan donning the image of a 'political battleground' just like MP did days before November 25 elections.
