Woman held for theft; gold seized

VISAKHAPATNAM: Police arrested a 39-year-old woman Tosakana Madhavi for thefts in Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and Srikakulam districts and seized around 308 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10,000 cash from her on Saturday.Talking to media here on Friday, Commissioner of Police J Purnachandra Rao said Madhavi, a house wife and resident of Gynapuram in the city stole gold ornaments from Machukonda jewellers near RTC Complex area in the city on Friday.Describing Madhavi's modus operandi, Rao said she would dress fashinably, go to jewellery stores, pretend to be purchasing gold and eventually steal ornaments from the store and flee.Police said Madhavi who was first arrested in 2001 by I Town police was also arrested by IV Town Police and Guntur Police in seperate cases.
