New Delhi: Amitabh Bachchan and 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' have become synonyms of each other. Amitabh Bachchan was trying to emerge out of a bad phase when 'KBC' was offered to him. Working for the small screen was not as lucrative as it is today, but Big B accepted the challenge.
Amitabh Bachchan never needed any support, even in his bad patch, but association with 'KBC' gave him a new lease of life among the viewers. Big B seemed confused about his image before 2000. He had got releases such as 'Laal Baadshah' and 'Kohram' just one year prior to 'Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 1'. He was playing a hero in these films, that too typical ones.
He was seen doing all sorts of stunts in these films which were not going down well with the audiences but the producers were sure about their utility.
Probably it was 'Sooryavansham' that gave him the idea to overhaul his image but the real implementation happened on 'KBC'.
For the first time, Indian audiences saw Big B in an avatar they always associated him with. Small screen was never as popular and powerful as it was now, viewers had started to know minute details about their favourite actors through various TV programmes.
The makers of 'KBC' realised the opportunity and gave the viewers an amiable man who could easily pass off as a family member. Moreover, he could crack jokes without offending anyone’s sentiments.
Amitabh Bachchan’s background and a long career as the people’s star made him endear to the contestants. Sometimes, he seemed to give away the subtle hints if a participant seemed digressing, most of the time he remained a man who was hell bent on making the audiences feel good about their knowledge level. He handled every contestant with ease, without getting irritated.
He became the face of the small screen, and now he was ready to revive his film career too.
Superstars such as Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir followed his footsteps, and they got popular too, but they have still not touched Big B’s level.
Aamir Khan has done a fantastic job in ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and he should be praised for his connect with the audiences but Amitabh Bachchan is still very tough to beat, even in the number game.
The first episode of ‘KBC 6’ has got 6.1 TRP, much more than KBC’s earlier episodes. Isn’t this the proof of Amitabh’s command on the popular pulse!
