KPCC spokesman M M Hassan, who resigned as convenor of the UDF sub-committee constituted to study various aspects related to Nelliampathy, said the Congress has already made it clear as a matter of policy that nothing which endangers the ecological balance will be promoted.
“As such, the visit of MLAs damages the credibility of the UDF panel,” Hassan noted.
“Government Chief Whip P C George’s remarks were made on his individual capacity and not of the UDF panel. I had already registered my opposition to his stance,’’ he pointed out.
However, V D Satheesan has maintained that Hassan’s quitting was owing to a misunderstanding.
“It is P C George who had insulted the committee and broken its credibility,” he claimed.
“We’re deeply pained by Hassan’s decision,’’ he said.
Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar wrote a fresh letter to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy demanding a Crime Branch investigation into various aspects related to the land issue in the belt, thereby adding more steam to the Nelliampathy imbroglio.
