CHENNAI: The department of Surgical Gastroenterology (SGE) and Centre of Excellence for Upper GI Surgery, Madras Medical College (MMC) and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, has organised a two-day video workshop, today and tomorrow, at the department. Detailed videos of how to approach standard gastrointestinal surgeries will be screened at the workshop, for the benefit of young and aspiring surgeons. Nationwide, SGE departments are doing specialised work in certain areas and it is practically impossible for a post graduate student or a practicing surgeon to visit all the centres and learn the techniques. The video workshop will bridge that gap in learning, according to Prof S M Chandramohan, Head, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, MMC.This programme aims at bringing the specialists to Chennai and show the attendees “The way the surgeries have to be done,” says Dr Chandramohan. “We are planning to show more than 20 standard procedures in two days. The beneficiaries include post graduates and surgeons practicing gastrointestinal surgery. The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University has granted 20 CME points for the participants,” he added.Details of the programme available at www.ghgastro.org.
