CHENNAI: A non-scalpel vasectomy camp will be held at the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital between September 14 - 16. This is the most non-invasive method of effecting family planning, said S Geethalakshmi, Dean - KMC, “With non-scalpel vasectomy the risks are nil while the procedure is so simple it can be done in ten minutes or less,” she added. This almost non-invasive procedure has been used by the City Corporation in dispensaries in a few major wards but the response has been lukewarm. “The awareness has been low in recent times and we are planning to hold many such camps to increase the awareness that a nuclear family is iseal and only family planning can help achieve that,” said the Dean. “Most of the time women are the ones who undergo family planning and it does cause them a little discomfort. With NSV there is literally no pain and it is definitely much quicker,” she adds. It does not leave a scar or any manner of injury, she also said. The Government is even offering a stipend of `1100 for any person who is willing to undergo the permanent ‘key-hole’ procedure where the vas deferens is tied into a knot using a pair of forceps, under local anesthesia. The camp will be held between 8 am and 4 pm on all three days.
