The second phase of voting for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly has ended with a moderate voter turnout .

New Delhi: The second phase of voting for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly ended on Friday with a 46 per cent voter turnout of the 1.6 crore electorate.

Fifty-eight constituencies across 10 districts in western UP voted on Friday and 881 candidates were in the fray for the votes.

Minor scuffles were reported in Muzaffarnagar, but voting in the rest of the state was peaceful.

The fate of 881 candidates contesting from 58 constituencies in western UP is now in the ballot box.

Nithari, the village in Noida where skeletal remains of several children were found early this year, also went to polls on Friday. Phase III of the elections will be held on April 18.

In 2002, the Samajwadi Party held eight seats here, the BSP had 15, the BJP had 10, Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal held 11 seats, the Congress had 6 seats and others had 8 seats.

And here are some VIP candidates who stood for elections on Friday:

* Controversial Minister for Minorities Welfare - Haji Yaqub Qureshi, who belongs to the UP United Democratic Front and is supported by the SP stood from Meerut and from Kharkhauda.

* Former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh's son Rajvir Singh contested on a BJP ticket from Debai.

* Kalyan Singh's daughter-in-law Premlata Devi contested on a BJP ticket from Atrauli.

* Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Mahendra Singh Tikait's son Rakesh Tikait contested from Khatauli. Bhartiya Kisan Dal is in alliance with the Congress this time.
