Lucknow: As rumours of cow slaughter triggered violent clashes in Bulandshahr on Monday, in which a civilian and a police officer were killed, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath was seen attending a light and sound show in Gorakhpur. When the clashes broke out, he was in Rajasthan campaigning for the upcoming elections there.

From Rajasthan the chief minister had reportedly flown to his hometown Gorakhpur. The pictures of the event, at Gorakhdham temple, were tweeted by the official Twitter handle of UP chief minister. He was accompanied by Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh. The chief minister also reportedly went to attend a Kabaddi event there.

The opposition criticised the chief minister for attending events and going ahead with election campaigning in Rajasthan at a time when the situation in Bulandshahr was tense. However, after the criticism Yogi Adityanath, reportedly, called for a meeting with the senior officials of the state to review the situation in Bulandshahr.

BJP ally and minister in Yogi Adityanath government Om Prakash Rajbhar attacked his own government saying the cow vigilantism in Bulandshahr as part of “well-planned conspiracy”. He went on to add: “Groups like the VHP, the Bajrang Dal and the RSS seems to be part of this conspiracy as there was a huge Muslim gathering some miles away in the same district.”

Former chief minister Mayawati also slammed the BJP-led government for violence in Bulandshahr and blamed their policies for mob violence.

Meanwhile, CM Yogi has announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the kin of the deceased police officer and government job for one member of the family.

Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was faced with a similar controversy in 2014 when the state was grappling to rehabilitate the Muzaffarnagar riot victims and CM's hometown hosted bollywood stars at the Saifi Mahotsav.
