New York: United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, has said that the UN is not headed towards a budget crisis.

However, he has warned the United States against pulling the plug on the organisation.

Lately, the UN has come under a lot of fire for mismanagement of its budget.

Kofi Annan has proposed reforms to set things right.

China and a group of developing nations blocked the process fearing reforms will place them on an unequal footing with richer nations.

Though wealthy nations, which contribute 80 per cent of the UN's budget, threatened to withold funds if the reforms didn't begin by the end of this month, Annan is positive that the reforms will pass.

"I see no signal that the US administration is either backing away from the reforms or believes that the reform process has become much more difficult over the past week," he said.

"I have also had contacts with quite a lot of ambassadors from all the groups in this building and I think they share my view that the atmosphere is better. They are determined to move ahead and reform the organisation," he added.
