Mumbai: A sessions court in Mumbai awarded death sentence to two youths for brutally murdering a woman and her baby grandson in their Borivali home in Mumbai 2003.
Additional Sessions Judge RB Malik sentenced Ashish Boravale and Clint Fernandes to death for killing 50-year-old Lettecia Mendes and her one-and-half-year old grandson, Dylan in an attempted robbery in suburban Borivali on November 19, 2003.
?In court, we argued that the accused are liable for a death penalty. The way they brutally murdered shows cruelty and therefore we were insisting to court for a death penalty.? D V Patil, Public Prosecutor said:
The third accused, Wilfred Dais was sentenced to five-year rigorous imprisonment for conspiring to commit robbery.
The youth were nailed based on the statement of baby Dylan?s mother Glenda Lobo, who survived the attack.
Two other minor accused in the case, Karan Khanna and Pradeep Dhivar, are undergoing trial in the juvenile court at Dongri.
On 19 November, 2003 the accused entered the Mendes? residence on the pretext of learning cooking. The boys then stabbed Letticia Mendes to death, assaulted Glenda, Mendes? daughter, and brutally murdered her son Dylan who had crawled into the room.
They later decamped with jewellery worth Rs 75,000.
