Two die as car plunges into gorge

KOCHI: Two persons died and two others were seriously injured when a car plunged into a gorge at Pathammile, near Kattappana in Idukki district on Sunday.     The deceased are Saraswathi, 56, and Sivaraman Pillai, 57, both natives of Kuttar near Nedumgandam.The incident occurred around 4 pm, when the driver of the car carrying four people lost control of the vehicle and fell into the gorge. Local people and police rushed to the spot, and rescue operation was launched.Saraswathi and Sivaraman died on the spot while the other two passengers were rushed to a private hospital in Kattappana, in a serious condition. They were later shifted to another hospital in Kochi.
