Twist in Rizwanur case: Todi met top cop
West Bengal Chief Minister has ordered a judicial inquiry into the death.

New Delhi: Fresh twist to the Rizwanur Rehman case has put the Kolkata police in a sticky situation. Former skipper Sourav Ganguly's brother and former Bengal Ranji cricketer Snehasish Ganguly says he introduced Rizwanur’s father-in-law Todi to Kolkata police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee.

He said, as he knew Todi had got him an appointment and even accompanied him to meet Mukherjee that is after Todi spoke to Snehasis about a family dispute.

“One day they came and told me they wanted to meet Prasun Mukherjee about some family problems. Since I knew Todi's family I took them to the commissioner. That's all I know,” Snehasish said.

Snehasish Ganguly is former Bengal Ranji cricketer and currently the assistant secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal, of which Mukherjee is president.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has now ordered a judicial inquiry into the death of Rizwanur.

He was a graphic designer, and his body was found on September 21, on the railway track in Dum Dum. Rizwan had married Todi's daughter Priyanka on August 18 against the wishes of her family.

The role of the city police has come under the scanner in the case following allegations that two deputy commissioners, Gyanwant Singh and Ajoy Kumar, were among four policemen who had threatened Rizwanur to separate from his Hindu wife, Priyanka.

Police sources have meanwhile claimed Todi distributed 86 T-shirts free to the city police on June 26 for an anti-drug rally.
