Where celebrities go, fans follow! And whether they like it or not, stars just have to live with it, literally! That seems to be exactly the case with social networking sites as well. The advent of social networking sites brought joy to stars who got to know that they now had a medium to directly interact with their fans. However, their joy may soon be a thing of the past if one is to go by the current state of affairs. Fans, who are loyal to their respective stars, seem to be using social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook to now fight their fan club wars. Take for instance, the case of 7am Arivu and Velayudham, which released for Deepavali. Tweets for and against both movies were posted by fans who did not stop with just discussing the issue of battle for the big screens but also continued to debate as to which movie had emerged the winner. What started as love for celebrities turned into an intense battle between fans. Celebrities are now using social media sites to connect with their fans to promote their brands. But some fans take their love for celebrities a tad too seriously. When Udhayanidhi Stalin's Twitter profile was being posted with comments from a star's fans, his better half, Krithika Udhay, came to his aid. She tweeted, “Let's get some things straight. Everyone has their own opinion about everything! I wish everyone's films do well!” Even though Twitter is becoming the next big thing since sliced bread, with just 140 characters, the amount of tweet battles going around the Twitterverse is mind-boggling! While some can be ignored, others cannot. Recently, singer Chinmayee, whose Twitter profile was brimming with fan comments on film reviews, tweeted back, “Twitter is one of those places, like the terrible teacher you had at school, where people insult/abuse you for asking a genuine question.” As a matter of fact, when asked if Twitter was a safe place to share information, an ardent tweet fan, Mahesh said, “Mostly Twitter is being used to follow celebrities and to directly chat with them. But sometimes, it can act against them if the fan doesn’t like one particular celebrity."
