New Delhi: People's Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Monday said the latest remarks of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Indo-Pak ties would have no meaning until his commitments were fully realised.
"Prime Minister's remarks in Berlin that destinies of the people of India and Pakistan are interlinked will have no meaning until his commitments made to the people of the state are fully realised," PTI quoted Mufti as saying.
The former Chief Minister said the paradigm of Indo-Pak friendship would be incomplete without a "space of dignity and opportunity" for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The peace process would never make any progress by bypassing Kashmir, said the PDP Patron, whose party has locked horns with coalition partner Congress over the issue of troop reduction in the state.
Despite various pronouncements from time to time, the J&K-specific reconciliation and confidence-building process seemed to be losing its sheen in public domain, he added.
Reiterating that reduction of troops and revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act were now inevitable measures, he said "any overt or covert move to stall this process is fraught with danger."
The people of J&K have to be freed from the vicious cycle of violence to generate an atmosphere conducive for the success of peace process, the former Chief Minister said.
Imaginative and progressive measures, in line with political, historical and cultural contours of the state, had to be initiated to give people a fresh hope for peace, progress and stability, Mufti said.
