New Delhi: Three members of a family were found dead in their Rajender Nagar residence in the capital under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. The bodies of father, mother and son was found in their home.

In the morning, police found the body of Jyoti and her son Pawan. Later, Sanjay's body was found in another room. Sanjay was a property dealer. The incident came to light when the maid visited the house on Sunday morning. Forensic officials reached the site and taking samples.

According to initial reports, the bodies have strangulation marks and the house was also ransacked. Police is probing whether it is a case of robbery or personal enmity that led to the brutal murder.

"A triple murder has taken place in which Sanjay, his wife and their son have been strangulated. We are looking for the reason behind the murder. "There is a possibility that they were murdered last evening and the information was received on Sunday morning. The house was ransacked so we are taking this angle into consideration," SK Gautam, Joint Commissioner of Police (Central Range), said.

Though the accused are yet to be identified, the police haven't ruled out possibility of property dispute as a motive behind the incident, a police official said, adding that preliminary investigation suggests the role of someone known to the family.

According to the police, the matter came to light around 8.50 AM when the domestic help of the family entered the house and discovered the bodies of Jyoti and Pawan in the apartment on the third floor of a building and raised an alarm, following which the police was informed. A team was rushed to the spot and a case of murder registered.

The police team found Sanjay missing, with which the needle of suspicion largely pointed towards him. Soon, a crime team was sent to the spot to trace out intricate evidences and a thorough inspection was conducted in the apartment, during which Sanjay's body was found shoved inside a closet.

The neighbours informed the family's relatives and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Sanjay was a government official and also dealt in properties. It is suspected that he was involved in a long-standing property dispute with someone known to the family. However, these details are yet to be verified. Investigation is underway and the police are questioning people close to the family, an official added.
