SALEM: A complaint from tribal has triggered fears of a kidney racket operating in the remote hilly pockets of the district.According to a complaint from P Krishnan (35), a differently-abled person, he got one of his kidneys removed at a hospital in Coimbatore two years ago and received `50,000 for the organ sale.A native of Maniyarkundam in Kalrayan Hills, Krishnan, a waiter at a hotel in Karumandurai, was married to Poonkodi and had two sons. However, he found it hard to make ends meet. This was when he came into contact with a person named John, who told Krishnan that he could get money if he sold his kidney.John took him to a Kovai hospital, where one of his kidneys was removed. After this, Krishnan was given `50,000, which he subsequently handed over to his wife. However, his wife then developed an illicit affair with a co-worker and reportedly left him and took his raion card. Krishnan, whose health started deteriorating, was unable to go to work and found it hard to take care of his children. As his complaints with the police to get his ration card back, was of no avail, he petitioned the Collector.
