CHENNAI: Sleuths of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption caught an assistant engineer working with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,500 at Thiruninravur on Friday.Police said they caught K Prabhakaran (42), working with the TNEB, Pakkam, Thiruninravur, when he accepted the bribe amount from an applicant, who needed electricity connection. Tamilselvi (40) of Pakkam owned a newly constructed house located in a half-ground plot in Thiruninravur that needed electrical connection, police said. She had wanted three phase electricity supply and had approached her uncle R Ganesan (68) to help her out. Ganesan had applied at the EB office at Thiruninravur, paying a fee of Rs 7,500, police said, adding that despite completing the formalities, supply was not given.Ganesan then approached Prabhakaran and the latter allegedly asked for a bribe of Rs 1,500 for providing the connection. Ganesan lodged a complaint with the DVAC. Police said a team, including DSP Ponnusamy caught the AE red-handed.
