Thirumurugan Festival from July 19

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thirumurugan music, lecture and dance art festival, organised by Thirumuruga Bhaktha Jana Sangham, will be held from July 19 to 24.  Sree Panduranga Bhajana Mandapam, Chembai Road, Ayodhya Nagar, Sreevarahom will be the venue. On the first day, from 4.30 pm, there will be Nadaswaram recital by Trivandrum K Kumar and K Muthukumar and party. It will be followed by the inauguration of the festival by P K Subhash, Director, Thiruvananthapuram Doordarshan Kendra, at 5.45 pm. From 6.45 pm,  there will be a Carnatic music concert by Sriranjani Santhanagopalan.  On July 20 and 21, from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm, there will be discourse by M Muthukrishnan on ‘Arunagirinathar Anubhavam’. Vidya Kalyanaraman will render a vocal concert on July 20 at 6.45 pm. On July 21, there will be concert by Gayathri Venkitaraghavan at 6.45 pm. On July 22, there will be ‘Abhirami Pathigam’ recital by Thirupugazh Anbargal from 3 pm to 4.15 pm. That will be followed by Bharatanatyam performance based on Thirupugazh by Aparna Ramesh at 4.30 pm. Swarna Rethas will give a Carnatic vocal recital at 6.45 pm. On July 23, there will be ‘Geetha Gangeyam’ (Sree Subramanya Ashtapadi) recital by Thirupugazh Anbargal at 8 am. From 6.45 pm, there will Saravanabhava Opera by B Suchitra. On the concluding day, ie July 24, there will be recital by Thirupugazh Anbargal Balar Sangham at 4 pm. The valedictory function to be held from 5.45 pm will have Vanaja Sankar, Principal, Sree Swathi Thirunal College of Music, as the chief guest. P Janardana Aiyar, president, Sree Seetha Rama Bhaktha Sabha, will preside over the function. B Suchithra will lead a Harikatha ‘Valli Kalyanam’ from 6.45 pm onwards.
