Four more cases were registered against Thally MLA T Ramchandran of Communist Party of India (CPI), who is currently in Salem prison in connection with a murder case, here on Monday.
Cases were registered against the MLA, his wife and brother for their alleged involvement in illegal quarrying of granite in Denkanikotta and surrounding areas. According to a complaint lodged by Santhanapalli Village Administrative Officer (VAO) Umar Karuththen with Denkanikotta police, MLA Ramachandran, his wife Vimala and brother Varadarajan had illegally quarried granite stones in government land in survey number (S.No) 1765/6 in Santhanapalli village.
In another complaint, Irudukottai VAO Ramasamy said the trio had carried out illegal granite quarrying in the land bearing S.No 1104/3 in Irdukottai village.
Denkanikotta police have registered two separate cases in this connection against the MLA, his wife and brother.
In addition to this, Udhanapalli police have booked two another cases on the charges of the trio illegally quarrying granite stones in government lands in Nagamangalam area.
Nagamangalam VAO Ramasamy has lodged complaint against 12 persons including MLA, his wife, brother and nine other quarry workers.
Currently Ramachandran and his brother Varadarajan are in Salem prison in connection with the murder of Krishnagiri district Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) organizing secretary Palani.
On July 5, Udhanapalli police registered a case against Ramachandran, his brother Varadarajan and father-in-law Lagumaiah and other 19 persons in connection with the murder of Palani. Ramachandran surrendered before Tiruvannamalai court on July 30 before Judge Vijaya after the Madras High Court refused bail to him. Following this, Hosur police took him into custody for enquiry on August 9 and 10.
In addition to above cases, it may be noted that Berigai police had registered a murder threaten case against MLA Ramachandran and eight other persons on August 12.
