Cuttack: A 25-year-old computer engineer from Mumbai was on Monday arrested for allegedly designing and hosting a fake website of the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE), police said on Monday.

Ranchi-based Sana-ul-haq was arrested by the Odisha cyber police and produced in court here today from where he was remanded to jail custody, they said.

Cyber police station officials said the youth, a graduate in computer engineering from a private institution in Bhubaneswar, was working in a Mumbai firm.

Following a complaint from the OJEE authorities, the cyber police were investigating into the case for over a year.

The OJEE authorities had stumbled upon the fake website in January last year and lodged a police complaint at Bhubaneswar's Airfield police station.

The cyber police took up the matter subsequently and booked the youth under several sections of IPC and IT Act.

The officials said the motive behind hosting the fake website was to prepare a database of students aspiring to pursue courses in engineering.

A section of private engineering colleges might also be associated with the case, the officials said.
