TDP may field KEK for speakers post

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam is likely to contest the Assembly speaker’s election which will be held on Saturday. According to sources, TDP might field former minister KE Krishna Murthy for the post. Though its chances of winning are remote, the contest will enable it to keep its flock together. The party will issue a whip which will be binding on all its MLAs. If any MLAs defies it, the party will seek his or her disqualification.TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said the party would issue a whip and it would be binding on its MLAs. As already two disqualification petitions with regard to rebel MLAs were pending with the Speaker. If they violate the whip again, TDP will press its argument further and want the speaker to act fast on its petitions. Contesting the election will also send out a message that the main opposition party had not colluded with the ruling party as alleged by the YSR Congress.
