TDP leader held for sending malicious SMSes

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) incharge of the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency Tera Chinnapa Reddy was arrested here on Saturday by the Cyber Crime police for allegedly sending malicious SMSes to people against the Panchayat Raj minister K Jana Reddy.

 Police might produce him before the magistrate Saturday night.

 According to police, a few days ago, Chinnapa had sent malicious SMSes to various people in his constituency where the accused contested in general elections against Jana Reddy.

 Jana's personal secretary lodged a complaint with the police stating that Chinnapa was damaging Jana's reputation by sending SMS in which Chinnapa is alleged to have made certain allegations.

 "Based on the complaint, we registered a case against Chinnapa Reddy under the Information Technology (IT) Act and took him into custody.

 We will produce him before the court," additional director general of police, crime investigation department, S V Ramana Murthy said.

 Murthy also said they would set up a team of senior police officials and identify the people who received the SMSs from Chinnapa and his followers in his constituency.

 It is learnt that Chinnapa Reddy also made his election canvass in 2009 while sending some SMSs against Jana Reddy in his constituency.

 "We will look into the issue while questioning local people and will collect evidence in connection with the case," Murthy added.

 Chinnapa allegedly hired some SMS service providers in 2009 during the elections and sent bulk SMSs to people while collecting their mobile numbers during the his campaign
