CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) and Auburn University of USA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday for collaborative research.The main subjects that will be under research are pig nutrition, small ruminants (goat and sheep) nutrition, poultry science and meat science. Vice-Chancellor of TANUVAS, Dr R Prabakaran, and Dean of College of Agriculture, Auburn University, Dr William Batchelor signed the MoU at a event on the Vepery campus of TANUVAS.A discussion on the thrust areas for collaborative research was held after the signing of the MoU. Dr Prabakaran said, “Both universities have identified the areas which need intensive research to meet the global challenges we face due to climate changes and growing food safety and human health.”The collaborative research includes exchange of technologies, application of newer and novel research tools including nanomaterials to improve productive and reproductive efficiency in swine, small ruminant and poultry and production of wholesome meat. The MoU will also facilitate student and faculty exchange programmes.Among others present were Dr M Babu, Director, Centre for Animal Production Studies; Dr D Thyagarajan, Director of Research, TANUVAS; Dr Joseph Molner, Cooordinator of International Programmes, Auburn University; and Dr Nada K Nadarajah, Senior Research fellow at Auburn University.
