She bagged 27 gold medals for academics. Now, J C Jeba Rose Jennifer wants to take up research in oncopathology.
After the 15th Convocation of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) held on Friday, Jennifer told Express that she would begin her research soon after her MVsc, for which she has obtained a seat at Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh).
Jennifer said she lost her grandfather to a type of bone-marrow cancer which made her interested in taking up the research. “Cancer, in various forms, seems to be increasing globally. Studying it at the cellular level will help better understanding it and could help diagnosis at a tissue and at organ level,” she said.
Jennifer, who developed a love for pets, chose veterinary science though she got admission for medicine in a medical college in Karnataka.
She said her mother and father gave her full support.
“If I was studying poultry, they would organise a trip to a poultry farm and made all efforts to give me a better understanding of the subject. And I cannot ignore my teachers as well, they were very helpful. The TANUVAS library has the best collection of books on veterinary science. There are at least a hundred books on every subject,” she quipped.
The gold medalist said prayer helped her come out with flying colours.
She advised her juniors not to play around in the first two-years and suggested that they start studying from day one.
She received the medals along with 225 others who received their certificates from Governor K Rosaiah, in the presence of TANUVAS vice-chancellor R Prabhakaran. Besides Jennifer, 45 students from TANUVAS received a total of 72 gold medals.
National Diary Research Institute V-C Anil Kumar Srivastava presented the convocation address. Animal Husbandry Minister T K M Chinnayya was also present on the occasion.
