Governor K Rosaiah on Tuesday appointed veteran Tamil Nadu Assembly legislator Dr C K Tamizharasan as the Pro-tem Speaker of House after the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker fell vacant, a Raj Bhavan communique said.
While former Speaker D Jayakumar resigned from the post on Sept 29, Deputy Speaker P Dhanapal put in his papers after he was nominated as a candidate for the Speaker’s post. An election is scheduled for October 10.
Tamizharasan, who was elected to the Assembly from the Keezhvaithinankuppam constituency, would function as the Speaker till then.
Tamizharasan acted as Pro-tem Speaker of House soon after the AIADMK swept the Assembly polls in May last year and formed the new government.
Meanwhile, Dhanapal is all set to be elected as Speaker unopposed, as only one nomination had been received for the post.
