BANGALORE: Former Mayor P R Ramesh has written a letter to City Police Commissioner B G Jyothi Prakash Mirji complaining about the security lapses in the city. In the letter, Ramesh stated that Bangalore had been witnessing more murders, theft and kidnap cases in recent years. This had created fear among the people.“This year alone, two BBMP Councillors are killed in thick populated areas in broad daylight.Former councillor Govindaraj was also killed. When Councillors are done to death, what will be the plight of the common man,” he questioned. He said Nataraj had given letter to the police seeking for protection as he got threat calls. But the police have failed in their duty, he alleged.Ramesh also said that Bangalore had grown beyond 800 kilometres.“But the city is not equipped with modern security measures,” he said and requested the police commissioner to list the rowdy sheeters in each police station and take action against them as soon as possible.Meanwhile, Congress leaders including former Mayors P R Ramesh and M Ramachandrappa, have submitted a memorandum to City Police Commissioner B G Jyothi Prakash Mirji and demanded stern action against anti-social elements. The Congress leaders urged the commissioner to take initiative to deploy technology in preventing the increasing number of crimes.“Financial constraints should not come in the way in ensuring conducive atmosphere to live peacefully,” they said.
