THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Swadeshabhimani Award for 2011 has been conferred on Mathrubhumi group chairman and managing director and the chairman of Press Trust of India, M P Veerendra Kumar. The award is in recognition of his contribution to the field of journalism and as the head of a media organisation. The award comprises a citation, statute and a cash prize of Rs 25,000. The award for the best presenter of a socially relevant television programme went to Johny Lukose who heads the editorial wing of Manorama News Channel. He anchors the programme ‘Nere Chovve’ in the channel. The Thiruvananthapuram bureau reporter of Madhyamam Daily, A Zakkir Hussain bagged the award for the best print journalist. The series ‘Thottikalude desam puramlokathode parayunnathu’, fetched him the award comprising Rs 10,000, citation and statute. The Swadeshabhimani Photography award was shared by Shaju V (Malayala Manorama) and Rajesh Rajendran (Janayugam). The awards will be presented by Defence Minister A K Antony in the presence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at a function to be held in October.
