BHUBANESWAR: RBI Governor D Subbarao met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his Secretariat chamber here on Wednesday. He did not divulge anything about the meeting to mediapersons because of the model Code of Conduct for the panchayat polls. The RBI is scheduled to hold the board of directors meeting here on Thursday which will be attended by Subbarao.Besides, RBI’s Deputy Governors KC Chakrabarty, Subir Gokarn, Anand Sinha and HR Khan will also attend the meeting. Addressing a function to mark 50 years of RBI in Bhubaneswar, Naveen said the bank should intervene more vigorously and proactively for financial literacy and credit counselling of the poor. Stating that today the poor are exposed and attracted to a lot of risky choices when they acquire some surplus out of their meagre incomes, they should be aware of where to deposit their money and at what interest rate. The poor should not lose their hard-earned money by fake promises and false propaganda by the fly-by-night operators and greedy financial vultures, he said. Naveen said collective action by RBI and the State Government in these two areas can help the poor in no small measure, particularly in their hard times. The RBI Governor and senior officials attended the function.
