CHENNAI: Giving a big push to improve the quality of higher education and making students more employable, Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan on Tuesday made a slew of announcements in the State Assembly, including a programme to send students and faculty abroad.Replying to the debate on the demand for grants to higher education, he said a ‘Study Abroad Programme’ for faculty and students will be implemented through the TN State Higher Education Council. Under the plan, students and teachers can visit foreign varsities for learning and taking up joint research respectively. Students from foreign universities can come to Tamil Nadu for higher education. Renowned foreign faculty will be invited to teach and share their research experience, he said.In an effort to increase job opportunities for students pursuing higher education and to make varsities serve as a bridge between the students and industry, ‘University-Business Collaboration Centres’ will be set up. Such centres would link top business houses with the varsities and thus the students.
