KOZHIKODE: Bringing an end to the two-month-long strike and furore at the Government Engineering College, West Hill, regarding the controversial admission of Nirmal Madhavan, it has been decided to transfer him to MEA Engineering College, Pattikkad, a self-financing college in Malappuram district.He will be given admission to the fourth semester,while he was studying in the fifth semester now.This was decided by the Kozhikode District Administration on Thursday as per the instruction of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.District Collector P B Salim also announced that the Government Engineering College here will start functioning from Friday. This will also bring an end to the indefinite blockade and strike in front of the Government Engineering College by the DYFI-SFI, going on for the last three days.Leaders of CPM, SFI and DYFI welcomed the decision which came after a meeting between the District Collector and the technical committee members here on Thursday.“We will support the admission procedure and let Nirmal Madhavan study as long as it is given without bypassing any norms and regulations,” said SFI state president K V Sumesh.CPM leaders said the agitation demanding a judicial probe into the police firing and action against ACP Radhakrishnan Pillai would continue at a new venue.
